Atlas for Earth Day

I was once diagnosed as having Atlas Syndrome. At the time I had no idea what that meant or why I needed to be concerned. I still don't know why I should be concerned...

Happy Earth Day !

These Boots are Made for Walkin'

On the liner notes for the original recording of Nancy Sinatra's breakout LP in the swingin' 60s of the above title it begins with Nancy asking her producer (and writer of the actual music)  Lee Hazlewood, how she should sing the song. He replies, "Like a 16 year old girl who's been dating a 40 year old man but it's all over now." This should give you some idea of the era and the mores. Nancy wrote this song's lyrics and it's right on target given that it was the beginning of 1966 when it was released but I always think of this song as the beginning of liberation of women in a much broader sense of the word. Have a listen:

On the sunny side....

Today would've been Billie Holiday's 100th birthday, so in honor of her and her formidable talent I am submitting this slice of her musical prowess. She happens to be my all-time favorite singer so it's a real privilege to present her flair for Jazz. Enjoy !

A Spring Song 2015

Spring has arrived so here's a celebration for it in the form of these beautiful videos. The song is by Einaudi Ludovico and is fabulous to relax to and just enjoy the moment:

Barbie Goes Home

I hear this song every now and then on someone's cell phone and I really wonder if anyone ever got it. Aqua may be singing about Barbie's fantasies but this one was obviously just a male fantasy and not particularly funny but definitely weird in a world of women still fighting for equal pay and equal say...

Lose the silly song

and just be yourself,

Les Yeux Sans Visage...

Yeah! Now I know what that chick was singing all those years ago ! Le Francais bien sur !

I'm all out of hope
One more bad dream could bring a fall
When I'm far from home
Don't call me on the phone to tell me you're alone
It's easy to deceive
It's easy to tease but hard to get release.

Les Yeux sans visage, eyes without a face

Got no human grace, you're eyes without a face

I spend so much time
Believing all the lies to keep the dream alive
Now it makes me sad
It makes me mad at truth for loving what was you

When you hear the music you make a dip
into someone else's pocket then make a slip
Steal a car and go to Las Vegas
Oh, the gigolo pool

Hanging out by the state line
Turning holy water into wine
Bringin' it down

I'm on a bus on a psychedelic trip
Reading murder books, tryin' to stay hip
I'm thinkin' of you, you're out there so
Say your prayers
Say your prayers
Say your prayers

Now I close my eyes
And I wonder why I don't despise?
Now all I can do
Is love what was once so alive in you
But it's gone from your eyes
I'd better realize

Got no human grace, you're eyes without a face
Such a human waste, you're eyes without a face
And now it's getting worse.

Mystery solved !

Michael Lives On...

After watching the Billboard awards I can honestly say the best performance I watched for the night was Michael Jackson's dancing (or whoever stepped in to do a remarkably similar routine to the King of Pop). It was the highlight of the whole affair but knowing that his passing was untimely it was a bit of a tearjerker as well. Several women in the audience were crying.
Earlier in the week, I watched a dance routine to a rendition of a new song from the posthumous recording "Love Never Felt So Good" on Dancing With the Stars and it was absolutely brilliantly choreographed and danced. They announced that Paul Anka had collaborated with Michael on writing the song and Paul was there for the announcement. I am convinced that Michael Jackson could have written music in any genre and he was beginning to explore others quite sincerely before he left us.
If you have a chance to check it out, I highly recommend listening to and buying his new CD Xscape as I am sure every song is a blockbuster. I listened to quite a few of the songs and they have taken on new dimensions for this R & B star. Take a listen to this :
